Sawgrass Community Newsletter – February 2020
Oakbridge Golf Course – Oakbridge golf course closed at the end of September 2019 for renovations and construction. There have been multiple complaints about the quality of the golf course in the recent past and the neighborhood decided to do something about it. This statement was issued on TheOakBridgeClub.com, “We have started the multi-million dollar renovation of our golf course into a completely new 12 hole course with other recreational enhancement to include a par three course, a new practice facility and Pickleball courts. Our Tennis Center and 3 Palms Grille will continue normal operation during this time. The golf course grand reopening is slotted for the Fall of 2020.”
The Ocean Course – Ponte Vedra Inn and Club golf course, The Ocean Course, is closed for construction and renovations and will reopen up in the Fall of 2020. British golf architect Herbert Bertram Strong used 100 mules dragging slip pans to bring his vision to life. The course will incorporate 99 strategically positioned sand bunkers, elevated greens, defensive pin positions, etc.
Sawgrass Country Clubhouse – The older clubhouse was demolished in the beginning of 2019 to make way for the new 32,000 square foot clubhouse. It’s the largest construction project that the community will experience in its 40 plus year history. The renovation costs about 20-25 million dollars and will be 8,000 square feet bigger than the previous clubhouse. The club director of membership services, Janet Collins said there was an 80 percent approval amongst the members. The construction is set in three phases and is projected to be finished late fall of 2020.
Ponte Vedra Concert Hall – In the short month of February, there are 15 upcoming shows heading to your backyard! It will be featuring artists Delbert McClinton, Al Stewart, Jim Messina, etc.. Also, a Mardi Gras Party will be thrown to help support the Jax Children Chorus. Click here to find out details and ticket prices.
TPC Global Headquarters – The new 187,000 sq. ft. TPC Global Headquarters is underway and is expected to be finished by 2020. It’s located on Palm Valley Rd. and will be surrounded by a freshwater lake, echoing the iconic “Island Green” of the 17th hole from THE PLAYERS Stadium Course. It will have 20 foot wide bridges, 17 occupied buildings and will house over 750 employees. This solidifies Florida, even more so, to be the golf capital of the world.
